Another sunny day. We went for a drive up to the North Sea coast and saw the island of Schiermonnikoog from the dam wall at Lauwersoog. Between us and the island were the mudflats.
We had a picnic at Roebenoord, then drove to Dokkum where we had a wander round the shops and bought ice cream.
We went to the camp restaurant for dinner. Savoury Pancakes and ice cream.

It was a hot and sunny day so we put our shorts on and played Crazy Golf. Dad won because he was taking it seriously! We went for a pancake and an Ice Lolly, followed by a lazy afternoon and BBQ.

When we got up, it was dry! We decided that we would be better staying where we were, so we had to go and get our awning and stuff from the old pitch.
After we had put up the awning again, we went for a drive to Buidenpost to get food for tomorrow. It stayed nice so we had a wander round the shops. There was a toy shop and a bike shop. The weather should be hot tomorrow so we will have a BBQ.

It was raining, so we went to the museum in Groningen.
We thought that the museum was good. We liked the aliens best!
It rained and rained, so when we came back to the site, we got stuck in the mud. A lot of people tried to help push us out but it didn’t work. Eventually the camp site man came with his tractor. We had to go to a different pitch on a different part of the site for the night.

The sun was shining and it was HOT!!
Went swimming in the camp site pool which we had to ourselves. After a lazy morning and lunch we went into Drachten to buy our tea and we found an outdoor shop that sold cool little juice bottles.
Since the weather was nice, we had a BBQ.

Last night there was a thunder storm and it didn’t stop raining ’till 5 ‘o’ clock this afternoon. We got up really late and decided to go to the museum in Groningen. The traffic in Groningen was so bad that we couldn’t get there in time.
We headed back to the camp site, stopping in Leek to buy our tea. We bought horrible milk and horrible liquorice but really nice Sugar Bread.

It was raining today so we went for a drive. We went on a road in the middle of the Afsluit Dijk it was 20 miles long with water on both sides all the way.
It was still raining so we went to Drachten for a pizza.

Van still wouldn’t start! Called the breakdown people who showed dad how to ‘Hotwire’ the van. It started!!
Went to the VW garage in Drachten who fixed the ignition. Don’t know what was wrong with it, their English wasn’t good enough and neither was our Dutch!
We stayed in Drachten to buy our tea and then went back to the site for a game of badminton followed by a walk round the site.
Our holiday started today. Mum and Dad drank wine!!!

On Saturday we finally got off the boat ready for our holiday, but when we got in the van and turned the key, nothing happened!
We called the breakdown people who arrived after a couple of hours and started the van first time!
We drove to the camp site but decided we didn’t quite trust the van, so didn’t stop the engine all the way there. Lucky because, when we got onto our pitch and stopped the engine, it wouldn’t start again!
We managed to set up before the rain started. Once it started, it didn’t stop. We had a pond in our awning the next morning!
